<page title="Infodrom Oldenburg -- Honeypot">

This honeypot is intended to help us keep spam away from the real
mailboxes. The theory is quite simple. Once this page is found by
web crawlers spammers will also know about it and the embedded mail
address for Martin
Schulze. When a mail is sent to this address, it's body will be
extracted and an md5sum will be created. Every other received mail
with the same checksum for its body will recognized as spam and thrown
away.

This will help classify spam as such, but it will only work for
spam that is received after it has hit the honeypot. I guess that it
will be effective, but reality will have to prove.

This is not yet implemented but once it is, the system will be
publically available for others to use. Currently, only this page and
the address exists, waiting for the first spammer to use the
address.
